Employee Of The Month - January 2014

eom_jan2014_lgCivil Division employee Lourie Matthews is the Employee of the Month for January 2014. Mrs. Matthews joined the Sheriff's Office in May 1990. She has worked in various sections of the Sheriff's Office namely Movables/Garnishments, Docket and currently Real Estate Foreclosures. She is assigned to seize real estate properties and create auction notices to serve on the litigants involved in these cases. She has also assisted in training new employees. Mrs. Matthew's understanding of the seizure process is a great asset to the Real Estate Section. Her supervisor, Mrs. B. Douglas, says that Mrs. Matthews is a very cooperative worker and is well informed when providing information to potential bidders at the auction.

Mrs. Matthews says that she enjoys working real estate and plans to continue to give her best to the Sheriff's Office.

Law Enforcement District to Consider “Rolling Foward” on Millage Rates

Public Hearing set for Oct. 28, 2019 at OPSO

The Law Enforcement District of Orleans Parish has filed an official notice that the district intends to hold a public hearing to consider "rolling forward" on millage rates.

In accordance with state law, the Law Enforcement District published a notice (attached hereto) and notified the Orleans Parish Assessor that the public hearing will take place at 1 p.m. October 28, 2019 at the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, 2800A Perdido St., 2nd floor, New Orleans.

At the hearing, the LED will consider "levying additional or increased millage rates without further voter approval or adopting the adjusted millage rate after reassessment and rolling forward to millage rates not to exceed the prior year's maximum."

The Law Enforcement District estimates that the amount of tax revenues to be collected in 2020 from the increased millage is approximately $12.12 million, compared with about $9.78 million expected to be collected in 2019. The increased tax revenues attributable to the millage increase are $2.34 million.

OPSO Hosts Job Fair Oct 10

Wednesday, October 10, 2019 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

WHAT: The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is recruiting sheriff's deputies to work at the Orleans Justice Center.

Deputy recruits must be at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

If you meet these basic criteria, bring a valid, state-issued identification card to the job fair. Potential recruits with a military background should bring their discharge paperwork (Form DD214).
